Church of San Agustin
The San Agustin Church was the only building left intact after the destruction of Intramuros in WWII. Built between 1587 and 1606, it is the oldest church in the Philippines. The massive facade conceals an ornate interior filled with objects of great historical and cultural merit. Note the intricate trompe l’oeil frescoes on the vaulted ceiling. Be sure to check out the tropical cloisters as well as the slightly shabby gardens out the back.

Manila Cathedral
Located at Plaza de Roma in the Intramuros district of the City of Manila, the cathedral was originally a parish church owned and governed by the Archdiocese of Mexico in 1571, until it became a separate diocese on 6 February 1579 upon the issuance of the papal bull, Illius Fulti Praesido by Pope Gregory XIII. The cathedral was damaged and destroyed several times since the original structure was built in 1581 while the eighth and current instance of the cathedral was finally completed in 1958.

Intramuros
An iconic landmark in Manila being a 64-hectare stone citadel, founded by the Spanish in 1571. The name Intramuros was derived from the Latin word meaning "within the walls". This walled structure has withstood wars, natural disasters and successive waves of colonial invaders, and as such stands as a metaphor for Manila itself. Within the protective walls rose a city of stone palaces, churches, restaurants, monasteries, convents, schools, and fine courtyard houses. In the centuries that followed, Manila (meaning Intramuros) served as the capital of the Spanish East Indies - the centre of commerce, education, government, and religion in Spain's most distant imperial possession.

Afterwards, we would proceed to Casa Blanca which is one of those Intramuros venues that will provide you a vintage, hispanic and nostalgic touch as this will remind you of the gracious living of the 19th century.

Mall of Asia
Almost four hectares of floor area. 8,000 parking slots. 5,000 square meters allotted for public utility vehicles. 100 slots for tourist buses. Almost one kilometer in length, and a perimeter of almost 2 kilometers. Close to 2 million bags of cement used to build it and 44,000 gallons of paint consumed. It also has 1.9 million floor tiles installed in it. One wonders if this scale of development was for an airport terminal, a seaport, or an industrial complex.

Interestingly, however, these facts speak about the Philippines’ largest and world’s third largest mall, the 407,000 square-meter SM Mall of Asia.
